This image is by Katsushika Hokusai, an japanese ukiyo-e artist. He was born in 1760 in Edo, which is now Tokyo He was very famous and had a great deal of influence on the artworld, not only in Japan, but around the world. You can read more about him here.

The Ninja were Japanese warriors famed for their skill at espionage and strategy.
